Sandrine Pelletier | Procession Towards The Unknown

Sandrine Pelletier
Procession Towards The Unknown
Geneva, Switzerland: Mental Groove Records, 2013
11" diameter (approx)
Edition of 9 copies, signed and numbered

Sandrine Pelletier is a Swiss artist who works in a variety of media, but is perhaps best known for her
work with embroidery, tapestry and other textiles. Procession Towards The Unknown is a project she initiated during a recent residency in Egypt.

Collaborating with members from two Egyptian bands - The Invisible Hands (Psychedelic Folk/Rock) and Scarab (Death Metal) - she produced a 25-minute improvisational soundscape. El-Masri handles guitar and percussion, Adel plays the synth and Sayed is on vocals.

The recording, made at night in Cairo, was immediately pressed to vinyl, using a manual process with a special overheated amber compound. The disks are approximately one inch smaller than the standard 12" LP, and their shapes vary. Each disk is unique.

The disks are available in a very limited edition of 9 copies, housed in a wooden box, which is signed and numbered. A small number of publisher proofs were also produced, unboxed.

The work is released by Mental Groove Records, an independent label run by Olivier Ducret, active since 1989. Visit their site, here.
